Print Advertising vs. Classified Advertising

Property By Owner's Photo-ads Are Far More Effective Than Newspaper Classifieds!

You could decide to do it all yourself without any help from Property By Owner™, but of course you would still need to advertise... somewhere. You could place an advertisement in the newspaper classifieds only to find that most of the calls you get are from agents and investors.

According to an Inman News Report published on July 15, 2003, 11% of buyers surveyed first learned about the home they bought on the internet, up from 8% in 2001. Yard signs accounted for 16% and Newspapers only accounted for about 7% of sales.

  • When a buyer has had the opportunity to see pictures and read details they can determine if your home fits their needs. This makes finding a home easier!

  • Our photo-advertising is superior to classifieds where all they see is a few words surrounded by zillions of other classifieds. Photo-ads are spaced evenly, with enough room to see the property, and read the description.

  • If you have a busy lifestyle like most working people, then classifieds are too time consuming when searching for a home!

  • Magazines have a longer shelf life than a newspaper. While newspapers get disposed of every day, magazines hang around for months and sometimes years!

  • Classifieds end up wasting valuable time for both the buyer and seller because there is no filtering. What is filtering? If all you have is a yard sign without brochures there is no filtering. Every buyer must call to get basic information such as the price, square footage, bedrooms, baths, etc. If you have brochures then it will filter out buyers that are not a match for your home.

If you don't want tons of calls that are dead ends and time wasters then you will want your marketing to separate out the true buyers that are looking for a home like you are offering. The more information you provide to the buyers the more filtering that takes place. If you provide enough information then the buyer doesn't waste your time (or theirs) if your home does not fit their requirements.

Photo-advertising provides the high level of filtering you need to find your buyer without wasted calls and dead ends!

The tiny classified ads are so expensive that home sellers write the smallest ad they can for the least amount of money. The cost for running a tiny classified ad for one month is usually more than our entire 3-Month Marketing Package.

Non-descriptive classified ads are not very good at solving the home buyer's need for information. There are no photos so the buyers can't see if the home is even in the ballpark of what they are looking for.

Buyers reading classifieds usually just call to get basic information and an address so they can drive by to see if they like the curb view. Buyers do not want all of this work! They want easy, fast and painless or else they will find an agent to do the work for them!

Worst yet, classifieds only reach a tiny sliver of the mass market of buyers because buyers hate to use them! 70% - 80% of sellers that use this approach give up and list with an agent within 2 to 3 weeks!
